Unseen Tears: film, panel, community potluck
October 4, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm
At Medaille College, in the Sullivan Events Center gymnasium. Native American Community Services of Erie & Niagara Counties, Inc. (NACS) will observe the 10 years since the release of the seminal documentary, “Unseen Tears: The Impact of Native American Residential Boarding Schools in Western New York.” In this very special event, we want to give thanks for all the people for their courage and compassion for sharing of their experiences and impacts of residential boarding schools, and for all those who contributed, supported, and were part of the production, distribution, and release of the documentary. We also want to commemorate and celebrate the healing that has happened across our Native communities not only here in Western New York, but throughout the state, country, and internationally, as this documentary has had a tremendous impact. And, we also want to recognize the healing that is yet to come, as we realize many community members are still feeling the negative consequences of the entire residential boarding school systems across the US and Canada.
At Medaille College, NACS will show the documentary and have a panel discussion about the film, as well as a community potluck dinner (with corn soup, fry bread & ham provided by NACS), and social dancing! All are welcome!
